Yamaha recalls death machines
« on: December 20, 2014, 08:29:59 AM »
Previously known as the most reliable brand.  :(

Just saw this on Consumer Affairs. Thought I'd pass it on.
Yamaha is recalling about 875 off-road motorcycles.
The engine can lock up during operation, causing a rider to lose control of the vehicle and crash, resulting in injuries and death.
No incidents or injuries have been reported.
This recall involves model year 2015 Yamaha competition off-road motorcycles with model numbers YZ250FFL and YZ250FFW. The recalled motorcycles are blue and white, and white and red.
The model number is on left and right side of the fuel tank cowling. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is stamped on the frame near the steering stem. The letter F in the 10th position of the VIN number indicates that the unit was made in the 2015 model year.
The motorcycles, manufactured in Japan, were sold at Yamaha motorcycle dealers nationwide from May 2014, through November 2014, for about $7,600.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled motorcycles and contact their local Yamaha dealer to schedule a free repair. Yamaha is contacting all registered owners directly.
Consumers may contact Yamaha at (800) 962-7926 anytime.

A little more detail on the problem......

Affected frame number range
CG34C0010801 to 0011920

What are the defects?
The balancer weight gear and the balancer shaft drive gear have been found to be manufactured from an out of specification material.

What are the hazards?
Continuing to use these incorrectly manufactured gears may result in engine failure and may pose an accident hazard.

At least they are going to take responsibility for faulty parts.

I called customer service on the 250f water pump and shift stopper and the dude told me that I'm not doing enough maintenance.
