XL 29 MTB NEEDED
« on: June 26, 2020, 07:35:54 AM »
I have been looking for a new bike for a while now and there is nothing in my budget and size.
Not really wanting to wait intil September or spend $4500 and up.
A bike shop was actually able get me a Diamondback RELEASE 4C CARBON but it is only a 27.5.
It'll be there monday and they will build it for me, but I have no experience with a Daimondback except for the 80's when I had a BMX.
That might be my only bet at this point but I thought I would ask here if any of you all have one.
Mostly riding at Snow SUmmit and local trails so something Enduro based would work.

Thanks! I will look into it.  But I think they are a little out of my price range.

they might be willing to wheel and deal a bit as they are a new brand trying to break into the market

YT just released a Capra Shred edition today, they are in San Clemente.   They'll sell quick though.

It's crazy, everywhere is sold out of bikes, parts, tires etc.  The Covid shit has given the bike market a huge boost.  I like the YT bikes, I have a Tues I love and have demo'd the Capra and really liked that bike also.

Steve, how did the Capra climb (for a longer suspension bike)?

Mainly interested in tight switchback climbs like Cholla in Aliso Woods

why 29?  what is the noticeable benefits?  coming from a 26" (and a 24" and a 20") my new 27.5" feels huge.

Better than I expected.   I want to go demo the Jeffsy one day, but the Capra would be good for the more aggressive trails that I like.

29" wheels roll over everything easier and keep momentum.   They roll fast once they get going.

My current bike is an Intense factory 27.5 spider which is a great bike, but looking for a 29 to go out and climb easier. (better roll)

When I bought my spider, the 29ers turned like crap, now they are way better with shorter chain stays and better geometry.

I think all demos are on hold at YT....I might stop by again later in the week

I ended up finding a shop that could get me a bike.
It is a Diamondback Release 4C 27.5
Carbon frame and fits me like a glove. I have been riding a ton of different bikes and this fit me best.
I was kinda worried about the DB but man I will tell ya it is one sweet ride!
With about 5 downhill days on it, I am super happy with it.  I'll upgrade the brakes in the future but other than that it is perfect for me.
It is pretty light for an XL, too.
