IMS tank inserts
« on: October 28, 2019, 08:55:03 PM »
Got an IMS tank that has spun one of the inserts. Can not remove a shroud bolt because of it. Any proven ideas or suggestions to remove the bolt and reset the insert?

Kickstand and all!

Grab the bolt head with vise grips and yank the insert out of the tank. Then get the insert off of the bolt and clean it up real good. Put it on another bolt, grab it with vise grips again and heat up the insert with a propane torch. When it's nice and warm, shove it back on the hole in the tank and let it cool. The plastic from the tank will melt it right back in place. Your welcome  :D

I considered some heat, was also thinking filling the hole with some sort of epoxy!?

If you heat it up, you won't need any epoxy. The plastic will re-form around the insert.
