IF YOU ONLY HAD ROOM FOR ONE TRACK...
« on: June 19, 2017, 02:01:57 PM »

We moved from So Cal to a remote area with only one track for all levels of riders. We want to do a new layout and trying to come up with the best option based on the tracks we know from So Cal. I think something like the Pala Vet track would be best for the most riders. Thoughts?

Are you building the track in a parking lot? Something like the Cahuilla Main would be ideal for most riders if you have some elevation changes to work with.

The most crowded tracks are usually the vet tracks. I do agree Cahuilla main would be an idea choice.  But their vet track can be fun, also look at the Vet track at LACR, Comp edge Hillside and the ever popular Milestone Vet track. Take all those and a past Pala vet track, put together one track that takes all the good parts of those and you would have an awesome track

The area is about the size of Pala Vet Track and is on flat ground (right on the Pacific Ocean!) So what makes a good track for all levels? Lots of bowl turns? Shorter table jumps maybe a couple in a row like the old Pala Vet track? Kids can't make 90' tables and doubles too dangerous. Some rollers? Got to be wide so good for our club races and plenty of room to pass. I liked Pala Vet track about a year ago when it went counter-clockwise? Got to flow so no hairpins. Maybe a step-up?

Good flow is important, and it's great you're considering the varying levels of rider abilities. I agree that rollers and an imitation of something similar to Cahuilla's vet layout would be ideal, but would like to add the importance of options: Step-on/step-offs that can be tripled (or quaded for real Pros), rollers with multiple timing variances, and at least a few splits to allow multiple inside/outside lines to develop are always appreciated. Most important, however, is the dirt and prep! Best of luck and please keep us updated with your progress (and location for track 'testing' purposes) 8)

Do you have elevation to play with or is it flat? I have found all the best tracks are made on hills or the side of hills.

Area is totally flat like Milestone. No elevation changes unfortunately.

Just build the track to maximize the space and make options for multiple levels. Perris did alright with some of their jumps, with landing slopes mid table for slower rider options.
