MX tech talk / YZ / YZF Triple Clamp Questions
« on: February 15, 2018, 12:46:21 PM »
Picked up a 2006 YZ 250 2 stroke that needs some love. The previous owner put a different year Yamaha top clamp (doesn't remember what year) to run fat bars.

However, the bar mount bolts don't allow much thread for the nut to thread onto, which causes me to question strength/fitment/safety.

I have access to a full set of 2009 YZ450F clamps. Does anyone here know if they will work? Other than offset, I can't find many differences.
Fork tube diameter is the same and the 06 YZ250 and the 06 YZ450F share the same triple clamp set up. 06-09 yz450f didn't have frame/fork changes either.

The part numbers differ due to having adjustment bar mount locations/number plate/fender between the years.

MX tech talk / Best place to find a yz 250 engine or cases?
« on: April 23, 2017, 07:18:54 PM »
Building an 06 yz 250 from the frame up. So, what year engines are the same as the 06 and what would anyone here recommend as to where to find an engine/bottom end/cases?
Thanks!

Will also be doing the 09 450f swingarm conversion, so any leads on that is also appreciated

MX tech talk / 2013 kx250f bog
« on: January 27, 2016, 09:40:16 PM »
Took the bike up to the mountains last weekend and the bike had a lack of power on the bottom, was difficult to start, and struggled idling. This has never been an issue anywhere or any time in the past. Clean filter/oil/oil filter. Air filter not saturated. It was moderate temperature and not high elevation either. I checked all of the plugs that I could and everything checked out fine. 100% stock engine with about 32 hours. Any input?

If there is any such thing as a remedy for injured ribs, what would it be? Its been about 2 months since a crash and I am fine doing normal activity at work, but when I sneeze/cough its about all I can take to remain standing. Any input on what can be done to help?

MX tech talk / sff revalve/respring.
« on: May 11, 2014, 01:24:53 PM »
Have a '13 kx250f with the sff forks. Who knows these the best and can do front/rear revalve and possible re spring if I need it?
It's all stock and is terrible, front is stiff with a harsh rebound and I don't know anything about these new style forks to adjust for that. I'm in Bakersfield so I'd have to ship it out unless it could be done same day in person.
Thanks!

MX tech talk / 2007 CRF450 clutch issues
« on: December 15, 2013, 08:08:27 PM »
Installed a new clutch pack on a friend's bike. Adjusted the cable accordingly and the lever was very tight and stiff to pull. Started the bike and pulled the clutch lever in and he heard/felt a snap and the lever gave way. When pulling in the clutch lever there is no resistance and the lever does not return after being pulled in. The cable seems to be okay (I can move it back and forth by hand smoothly). I have not pulled it apart but isn't there a spring somewhere in the clutch lifter lever coming out of the motor? the lifter lever spins freely by hand. Shouldn't there by tension on that?

MX tech talk / showa sff questions
« on: September 20, 2013, 08:58:03 AM »
New bike, no experience with these forks. Zero time on the bike, just want to know what's the scoop on these new forks. I've done some research but nothing is clear. Is there still air bleeders like normal? What effect will adjusting fork preload have? Any suspension guys can chime in  :D

MX tech talk / kx suspension interchanging
« on: July 12, 2013, 05:06:08 PM »
I picked up an 04 kx250 smoker that's turning out to be a basket case. The bike has the incorrect forks and shock on it.

My question is..are the 2004 kx250f forks the same diameter as the 2 stroke??? I know the newer 250f ones are different but I am unsure of the same year 250f forks. Can anyone confirm?

Also, Same question for the shock? What year 250f stuff can I use?

MX tech talk / wheel interchanging questions
« on: June 05, 2013, 04:17:43 PM »
I picked up a project 2004 kx 250 smoker and Im looking at different wheel options (450 oem black wheels).

Now, the rear wheel uses the same rim, wheel bearings, and wheel spacers as the KX450 according to part numbers so that should bolt up with no issues.

However, the front rim has some differences.... the Rim and wheel bearings are the same according to part numbers but the wheel SPACERS are different. That being said, could I run the 450 wheel with my 250 2T spacers? In theory, that would correctly space the rim for my bike, right?

MX tech talk / 2007 CRF 450r carb rebuild
« on: May 25, 2013, 08:53:47 AM »
Im rebuilding a carb that's sat with fuel for too long.
I need all of the stock settings if someone knows them

jet sizes, needle size, clip position.

I ordered a moose rebuild kit and the needle is different. the one is the kit is about a half inch longer so im confused a bit on that. Moose Part # shows the 06 being different. could this be an 06 carb? :? :? :?

also, carb has a boyesen quickshot pump cover on it and the diaphragm is thrashed. Is this an oem diaphrahm or boyesen specific?
