The Place / Training for racing?
« on: September 15, 2019, 05:45:18 PM »
I have not been riding much and when I do I can knock off 2-3 laps and i am done. So winded its pathetic.  With the major stress I have been going through for the last  couple years its amazing I have not had a heart attack.  So cooler weather is coming and for me having a newer bike, I really want to race again.  I am tired of when I raced the vet races or GP's. I seem to race at my fitness level (which is horrible and embarrassing)  I would like to ride at my skill level and see how I would do.  I would still be slow but compared to my level right now, its downright frustrating.
I work odd long hours and have been eating sorta like shit.  I know I need to eat well and am fine with that.   But what workout regimen seems to be the most effect of to build endurance?

The Place / Who tunes KTMs?
« on: September 09, 2019, 03:24:55 PM »
A good friend of mine bought a 2013.5 KTM 450 SXF FE dungey edition.  He took it to a local dealer to have them check out a bog,  he got it back and no bog but it backfires like crazy.  We tried adjusting the TPS and it back fires a little less, if you adjust the TPS so no backfiring, it bogs.  It could be the mapping?  I would like someone trusted to tune it, maybe Dyno or whatever.  Also any proride deals?  This is a really cool guy and really spent a lot already.

When I say adjusted the TPS, that was with injecting a clean voltage and setting it to the recommended wiper voltage, then tried slightly different positions

MX tech talk / Jetting help
« on: June 03, 2018, 08:56:22 PM »
So I finally got to take my 05 KTM 450 exc out.  Today was hot as hell.  One thing is the hotter it was outside, the worse the bike ran, no stumbles or bogs but the power was on par as my WR250R dualsport??  I mean the front end would not come up even is 1st gear wide open(on pavemnent), 2nd gear was a joke, all the way to 6th gear could barely hold it's speed but would not accelerate, had to downshift.  This is all mid rpm stuff.  At the top of the rpm it feels better.

New filter, valves just checked, oil done etc. The bike has 2700mi.  Bike fires right up cold, need to twist the throttle when it's hot to start it.

So I just am brain farting.  Sounds like it's rich right?

anybody trying this?

I have it and WOW is it an ass kicker.  I am just a few days into it and following the diet pretty strict.

my concern is the same when I did P90X.  My back injury does not allow me to do leg lifts, sit ups, crunches.  I am at a loss what to do when the AB intervals, and any of the other lower stuff goes?

I need to keep my heart rate up for this workout to be effective, but when these portions come, I just cannot do it.  It will put me in the hospital.

MX tech talk / XR650L jetting question stumble/vibration/backfire
« on: June 27, 2013, 10:15:39 PM »
Bought this bike used from 2nd owner. (who didn't know shit about a motorcycle)  The 1st owner looks like he added every XR only accessory available on this thing, minus the good carb.  This still have the crappy ass mikuni carb.

Anyways.  When you start it, you never need full choke, just 1/2.  After its warm, I turn off the choke and ride it.   Down low rpm it feels fine, but mid rpm range while normal acceleration or at speed, it feels like the motor stumbles/vibrates pretty bad.  if I accelerate from there open the throttle up 3/4 or more it feels better.
Also, if I decel with just engine braking I get a good backire not popping???

What is it?  lean or rich?   Is it just a needle clip position change??

Training and Fitness / Diet?
« on: September 23, 2012, 12:47:43 PM »
So I need to lose weight I am starting P90X the one to trim down.

WAAAAAAY back when I was in great shape, my diet was all protein and carbs.  Thatís all I knew.  Well I am not in that shape on Iím not concerned about benching 350lbs.  I am 6'2 235 lbs   I high school I was 6' 1" 195 with almost no fat.  I was very defined had an 8 pack etc...  I don't think I could get to that status again but I would like to get to 200 lbs.  I do not have the muscle mass I had nor do I want that.  Not that I was some giant by any means.

Anyways I am so busy with work and school.  I work 2nd shift and 50 hrs a week plus school at 16 hrs a week plus commuting and homework.  My biggest down fall is I donít eat enough and I slowed my metabolism to a stop.  I usually go to sleep around 3:30 am and I am up by 9 or 10 get ready for work them wonít eat till about 7 pm.  Then I will eat when I get home between 12-1:30am

Yes I know this is wrong.  I know I need to eat breakfast, then snack, then eat lunch, then snack then dinner.  The old saying is donít eat past 7:00  Well I think that is set up for people who work 9-5  I work more from 12-12  With that said, I would like, don't eat past 10pm?

So I need a diet plan that will give me the energy along wish speeding up my weight loss.
I love veggies, fish etc.  I have no problem with healthy food.  I think most of it takes good.

Any suggestions?

Meal plans or calorie count?  Do I give up carbs 100% ?

MX tech talk / Top End question YZ450F
« on: September 09, 2012, 04:58:47 PM »
I have not had an hr meter on this bike.  I have about 70 hrs on it.  Valves check out spot on.  It just does not have the snap and raw power it use to have, So I am thinking before season starts, to change the top end.  I know once season starts I wont put in a top end in it.

Anyways, what is changes with the typical top end on these 4 stroke.  I know the piston, rings, gaskets etc...  What about valves, cam chain, valve seats etc...  My valves have never needed adjustments btw.

MX tech talk / top end on my 450
« on: May 22, 2012, 11:53:50 PM »
So I have about 75 hrs on my bike (09 YZ450F)  Last weekend I was riding and my power seemed noticeable down.  I have a clean filter on it.  It fires 1st or 2nd kick.  My question is piston replacements.  I looked through my manual and there is nothing noted about compression ratings or leakdown test.  So how do I know when it's time for a top end (Piston/rings)

Sorry if its a dumb question, I have only done top ends on 2 strokes and I changed it once a year.  This the price is higher and it seems to be a much bigger pain in the ass.

Yes I know I need to check the valves, but I just have no idea when a topend is due on these track diesels

1 lap trying something new

What do you think?  I ran it in 720.  I might try 960.  It will give me the tallest view but not as wide
