This should be good for some comic relief (if you're really bored) After the first gate goes off you'll see Frank "Demolition" Derby live up to his name and demo one of the starting gates, Disco Dave scrambles to get it broken off then finally gives up, waves his arms around and runs over and drops the gate. (I think Frank is 75 now ? so we'll cut him some slack )  It sure seems like were hauling azz, but then I watch other gopro's and my illusion of speed is squelched   Sure is fun though  :P

Videos Gallery / Dual Sport dirt debut

Finally got the dual sport someplace besides the street and fire roads. The verdict ? Sproing...... stoked ! The original plan was to wear out the stock tires and then get something more dirt worthy. That plan is out the window, the stock tires are scary in the dirt, they're outta here. Probably going Maxxis desert IT on the back and the Golden tire fatty on the front. This was the first ride on anything gnarlier than a dirt road, I felt comfortable on it right away. Can't wait to try it with more dirt oriented tires  8)

MX tech talk / Hydraulic jack question
« on: August 20, 2018, 06:11:05 PM »
I have a hydraulic bike stand that won't go as high as it used to and creeps down if the safety bar isn't in place. Internet got me nothing except they don't make them anymore. (Team Hawg Scissor jack) Anyone ever work on these things ? After watching this video I think maybe it's just low on fluid and needs to be bled. Any thoughts ?  I should be able to add some fork oil to make up the difference ? Is hydraulic fluid differnet than fork oil ? Isn't all oil hydraulic oil ? As long as it doesn't squish it should be good ?

Hip #3 scheduled for March 30th.  Ceramic coated titanium ball into a polyethylene cup. Same as # 2 which has been great. I'll need to get some flexibility back and get "My hips to open up"   Looking forward to being able to get off the bike like a normal human instead of the 4 methods I use now.
Method #1 (the most efficient and coolest) As I'm rolling to a stop I lift one leg over the seat, then hop off and simultaneously pull the front brake and come to a stop right as my feet touch the ground.
Method #2 (used mostly on hard surfaces on the dual sport) come to a stop, put the kickstand down and lean far to the left as I climb off, making sure I offset enough weight over the left side to keep the bike from tipping over on the right side as the suspension compresses.
Method #3 (Used mostly after a moto when my tongue is draggin and I'm exhausted) I slide off the back over the rear fender. The trick with this method is to not crunch the berries on the way over the back fender.
Method #4 (Which is becoming alarmingly the most popular method) Is to tip over and roll away hopefully without whacking my melon in the process.       Hope to be back riding by the end of summer and racing by the end of the year. Parts is Parts !

What are you guys running ? Trials tires ? Regular knobbies ? DOT ? I'm more interested in dirt performance than street performance, any suggestions ?

Anybody try one of these yet ? They're 56 bucks right now, just curious  8)

I'm more interested in the zoom for surfing and moto pics

Training and Fitness / Stretching and ROM
« on: February 08, 2016, 10:01:07 AM »
Well after not riding for awhile or doing any kind of exercise or stretching I was a wreck after just a few laps at Pala on Sunday. After my first session I rode to my truck and slid off the side like I always have and my hips felt like someone stuck an ice pick in them. The rest of the day I climbed on my bike on the stand like I was getting on a horse and had to slide off the back over the rear fender to get off of the stupid thing. Is there some formula for knowing how far to push it when your stretching ? I feel like every time I try to get my "Hips to open up"  I wind up making it worse and spend the next few days walking around like a penquin with a peg leg, and then my knees and lower back starts hurting from walking around all caddywumpus. (yes that's a word  ) Any exercises or advice on how to know how far to stretch is appreciated. I usually push it until it hurts a little, but then the next day it hurts enough that I don't stretch again. Any tips ?

ps I know being 57 with arthritis aint helping but there must be something I'm not getting  :?

MX tech talk / Sprocket bolts coming loose
« on: December 23, 2015, 09:34:29 PM »
Never used to be an issue. Now I use red Loctite, crank them Godzilla tight, and they still seem to work loose after a couple rides. (long desert rides) Thought I read somewhere it could it be a worn hub or ? Getting ready to go through the whole bike and don't want to replace crap I don't "have" to. Was planning on new sprocket, nuts and bolts, how would I tell if the hub is still good ?

MX tech talk / YZ250 05' vs 06' forks
« on: November 22, 2015, 01:29:45 AM »
Question. My brother in law has a bone stock never been touched 06' YZ250 that he's more then likely getting rid of soon. Is it worth swapping my 05' forks for his 06's ?  Mine has been re-sprung and re-valved, his is totally stock (probably never even taken off the bike). Worth the effort ? I would need to re-spring and re-valve obviously, are the springs in the 05 and 06's inter changeable ? and do they slide into the same clamps ?
