Rear tire rim lock location
« on: March 23, 2015, 08:07:13 AM »
does the rim location make any difference ?

All my bikes except my RM have been 180 degree from the valve stem.
my RM rim lock is preety close to the valve stem maybe 9 inches away. there is a rubber plug at the 180 location not being used.

is this fine or normal?

thank in advances

I've always put mine 180 from the valve stem for balancing purposes. Not that the valve stem weighs as much as the rim lock, but its something.

if it's close to the valve stem… i always put it after the stem in front of the lock when the wheel spins forward.

if it's 180 i don't think it matter's too much

Putting the valve stem closer to the rim lock helps when changing tires for those folks who semi-inflate the tube, insert in the tire, and then thread the valve stem nut before pushing the first bead onto the rim.
Search youtube if that's too hard to follow or reply if you're still interested in a different/better explanation.
