The Place / Good Malcolm Stewart Interview
« on: May 01, 2024, 12:57:32 PM »
I like Malcolm, he has a really good perspective in things.  8)  Just the way he talks about his career, being compared to James, and his overall lighter attitude on everything that's happened.

Gave a plug to my friend Will @ www.willtopete.com in the process.  8)  I think he runs all his graphic print jobs through ERA and does great work so feel free to hit him up if you want custom graphics. Her has the templates for many makes and models, and even got them for my aftermarket side panels which are a non-OEM design.

And there it is...

Sexton has made a fan out of me and I'd like to see him do well, but find it hard to believe he will be better than he was on the Honda.  :?

The Place / The Electric CR
« on: October 06, 2023, 02:24:17 PM »
Posted this in the Varg thread as well but thought it was worthy enough news for it's own topic.

That looks very close to production.  :o

Quote from:
Press release: Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) announced that it will enter the electric motocrosser CR ELECTRIC PROTO in the D.I.D All Japan Motocross Championship 2023 Round 8, Saitama Toyopet Cup, in the IA1 class, to be held at Off Road Village (Kawagoe, Saitama Prefecture) on October 28 and 29.

This will be Honda’s first attempt to enter a Honda-developed electric motorcycle in an official race, and will make a wildcard appearance as Team HRC, operated by HRC. Trey Canard (33 years old), 2010 AMA Pro Motocross 250 class champion and current team advisor for American Honda Motor Co., Inc., will ride the CR ELECTRIC PROTO at the event.

Going out on a limb here using the 'Offroad Adventures' forum.

While some Green Sticker content is sure to creep in, would like to see what others are doing for their urban anarchy and ADV rides. Trip reports, planning, bikes, gear, bring it.

...and as the legendary Shifty would say: "POST A PIC" :!:  8)

MX tech talk / Silencer Repacking - Steel Mesh
« on: October 17, 2019, 12:49:59 PM »
How many of you ensure you're using a wrap of steel mesh / steel wool around the silencer core to protect the fiberglass fabric packing material?

The steel mesh comes in the stock silencers on YZ 2-strokes, but not in any aftermarket silencer I've ever purchased.

It is likely more important on 4-strokes which are supposed to have higher exhaust temperatures.

Would omitting the mesh make for a slightly quieter silencer?  :?

MX tech talk / Solvent to clean air filters?
« on: October 11, 2017, 09:13:24 PM »
Have a bucket of parts cleaning solvent I've used for a long long time to clean dirty oiled filters.

Always wear rubber / nitrile gloves when dunking / working the filter.

Need some new solvent by now, but not sure what to use or where I can get it anymore.

Does paint thinner work?

Acetone is a bit more harsh and you don't want that chit soaking into your skin.

Short of buying cheap / thin pre-oiled filters, what works well to purge Maxima FFT from a foam air filter :?:

MX tech talk / Alternate Subframe Bolts?
« on: October 01, 2017, 03:32:15 PM »
Random, I know, but the new boots have a layer of rubber in just the right spot to hook the left side sub-frame bolt on my YZ250. Already started pulling up after one ride.  :x  I trimmed a small nub of the rubber away, but don't want to keep hooking it and have it de-laminate even more, or have to trim a larger section.  :?

The older YZ's had a flatter / rounded Allen head bolt in the sub-frame, but I have no way of confirming if that will fit the new frame :?:

Any suggestions short of buying a new bike? In general the stuff at a hardware store is going to be clunky so I'd like to get something MX specific.

MX tech talk / Front Tires
« on: August 28, 2017, 04:58:33 PM »
I know everyone's got a phucking opinion, so lets hear em.   :P

Currently on a Bridgestone M403 which has been good, but I'm not really liking the look of the new Bridgestone front tires with their asymmetrical knob pattern (Battlecross x30).  :?  People I've talked to seem to like the x30 though.  :|

The older guys (sh*t, I'm one of them now) will remember the Dunlop 756, which looked like it wouldn’t work that well in hard dirt, but ended up being a very versatile tire.  The reviews I’m reading say the same about the newer Dunlop AT81, which looks very similar to a 756, but made of more durable rubber.

I’m thinking the Dunlop AT81 in the 90/90-21 size (90mm wide and 81mm tall..??..) or the Dunlop MX3S which I hear is an awesome front tire, but not very durable in hard dirt.

I feel like I cant sacrifice the taller knobs with wider spacing of an intermediate to soft tire for when tracks are fresh or I’m riding off road in deeper dirt / sand, but it needs to be predictable and durable on hardpack as well. Does anyone run a pure hardpack front tire anymore? :?

They both look good, although I wonder why so many tires have gone away from dimples in the knobs..??..
