MX tech talk / Re: Solvent to clean air filters?
« on: October 25, 2017, 11:12:32 PM »
Used gas for years and never had one issue.
The key is don't let them sit after the gas. Straight to getting coated with Dawn & washed and rinsed at least 3 times.

yup.

If you don't like the gasoline idea, a gallon of diesel works great. Less flammable by a mile, still cuts the filter oil well and washes out with Dawn and leaves the filter like new. Doesn't attack the filter glue either.

Totally agree...all I have ever used to clean my air filters is Dawn and hot water. It cleans it very good and does not completely remove all of the oil from the filter. I use less filter oil when oiling the filter up this way too. I am a cheap date so this fits my program perfectly. I have had several bikes with over 200 hours on them with absolute no issues!

MX tech talk / YZ250 2-stroke hours?
« on: February 23, 2014, 09:10:02 AM »
Asking the experts here. How many hours should a YZ 250 top end last? I know it varies per rider and how it's ridden but let's just say a fast young intermediate. How often should it be changed before we should expect it to go kaboom?

Its been quite a while since we have ridden the track we built a couple years ago.  its holding up real well. getting pretty rough and a hell of a work out to go fast on for sure. We will get a drag out there soon to mellow out the square edges.

check out the vids...one helmet cam and one watching my son from a distance.

If anyone wants to know where these are PM me and i will get back to ya

cool videos!!!!

brings back lots of memories riding that area along the tracks.

did you ever ride the track that was on the other side of the tracks?  Almost directly across from the power plant.  Go through the tunnel under the tracks, cross the road and head towards honda valley.  There used to be an old beat up trailer parked at the top of the hill.  It didnt have many jumps, but a lot of off camber turns.  We got chased off of it a handful of times and swear that some one shot at us one time.  good times!!!!!

Yeah we ride those tracks on occasion as well...there is three in the area you are talking about and like four more spread out through Honda Valley that we hit here and there...none of hem are nearly as fun as this track we have built but are great to hardcore train for some moto

Thanks for the effort bro...For the most part we can groom the jump faces with shovels and rakes...The jump approaches need the tractor love once a year if possible...the rest of the track can stay rough as it is motocross and it's great training.

I have a friend that owns a rental company that has always hooked me up because I rented so much equipment from him for my work in construction...problem is I have changed possessions and work for a company that does not rent equipment so I feel guilty asking the guy for a comped tractor for a weekend...he would still gladly do it but I just in good conscious can't ask.

what type tractor does your friend have and what kind of a rate are we looking at? i built the track with a skidsteer but a good skip loader would be perfect for a good grooming now. let me know!!!

Hahahaha. Thanks for the compliments but that was my son this time with the go pro. He has a few seconds a lap on the old guy. There was only one jump I was not hitting today because the approach was pretty hammered. A little shovel work is needed. Not sure when I can get a tractor out there again. Lost my regular hook up for a while

 . Hektic, I definitely will. He told me about a few other ones that we could have gone to, but they were a lot rougher and deeper. Said something about one by an air force base? We went to this one because he said that even though it gets rough, it's also just fun. Next time it rains well up there, I'm supposed to head back up and ride again so you'll hear from me!

looks fun,the one by the air base is my old stomping grounds, sharing is caring  . That track will break down the fittest pros by the air base, gnarly.  8) i do 3/4 of a lap and call it a day
the one by the aqueduct? if so, ive been there and its bruuuutal.

The three tracks near the aqueduct are the ones I am surprised Keefer did not take Preston to and yes they are all a serious workout and a mans track for sure...the track that nacnac is talking about is brutal as well over by the prison/old George air force  base.

I am working out of town again and have done no maintenance on our track this year but I bet it is still really good after a rainy week. I wanted to ride it this past Sunday but the kid wanted to head out to Racetown instead. Maybe this weekend I will sneak out there for a bit to check it out.

For us Hesperia locals the area where that track is no secret...that is a pretty newly formed track...I am surprised Keefers did not take you too the other three tracks further West from that location...next time you make a trip up here after a rain you need to check out the track I made which is only a few minutes ride from Keefers house...it is sand and hard pack with a bunch of jumps built into the hills...ask jayfox about the track. He did some go pro footage last year...it is better now than it was then...re built bigger, wider, and better.

Anti sieze ... If that does not work you can cut the bolt flush, drill it out, and there is a kit that installs in the end of the swing arm to replace the adjuster. . . Not a biggie.
