Counter shaft sprocket seal
« on: October 22, 2010, 10:00:20 AM »
on my 2006 RMZ 450 I have oil leaking from behind my countershaft sprocket. So I ordered the seal and o-ring that go with. Now hard hard is it to replace this seal? Just a pick out and replace sort of deal?? Any mechs want to chime in? Thanks!

It's not to hard just pry out the old seal and install a new one. Check the collar that goes in there for a groove worn into it.

Seal might be good, you may have overfilled the oil.  Make sure you read the service manual for proper amount of oil. ....

it was coming out from right behind the countershaft sprocket though? there was about a 6" diameter puddle under the bike and all over the skid plate

"Brand new" as in rebuilt or new from the factory? It could have been torn when it was installed.

It could have been torn/nicked when it was intsalled. I have had that happen to me, very easy to replace.

Even better, on a bike with a flat head screw driver with the case on a table.

The seal was fine! the person (unnamed) did not press the seal in completely. I did install the new seal still though.
