MX tech talk / Does anyone have a small "blind" bearing puller?
« on: November 24, 2015, 08:21:10 AM »
I need to remove a bearing from the side case of my YZ250. I tried to heat the case in an oven and get it to drop out with no luck. The bearing ID is about 8mm. Thanks in advance.

MX tech talk / 02-present YZ250 2t kickstart shaft breakage.
« on: October 13, 2015, 10:43:52 AM »
I just had my kickstart shaft fail for the second time in the process destroying the right side cover. The shaft seems to fracture from the hole that locates the kick return spring. This is over $300 to fix and I am trying to figure out a way to prevent this from happening again. I have heard that the larger 20mm vs 18mm 99-01 kick shaft will fit with the 01 side cover can anyone confirm this? On another forum someone suggested filling the hollow shaft with JB weld and redrilling the return spring hole for added strength. I must admit that sounds a bit iffy to me. Any suggestions?

MX tech talk / Brake bleeding help
« on: June 27, 2015, 02:03:43 PM »
I removed my sons front brake assembly completely intact (master, hose, and caliper) to do some fork maintenance. When I replaced the brake assembly I now have no pressure at the lever. I have bled several Oz of fluid with zero improvement. There are no bubbles coming out with the fluid. I can see the caliper pistons move a bit when I squeeze the lever but then they move back when its released. Hopefully one of you tech gurus can help. Thanks

I have a bike with 33mm conventional forks that have 6" of travel. Is there a way to determine a starting point for oil level? They are on my sons china (SSR) pitbike that has no tech info available. Thanks in advance.

Since this has become the Moutain bike forum I thought I'd ask here.
I got my son a CRF50 based pit bike for Christmas because he out grew his CRF50 before he really learned how to ride. Long story short is I got this pitbike because I could bolt his 50 engine in it giving him a physically bigger bike. Apparently in the pit bike world no one has set one up for a kid so the softest springs I could find are still too stiff. After measuring the shock spring I started looking at Mtn bike springs and found that the Fox and Manitou 3.0 stroke springs will fit perfectly. I just figured I'd check here if anyone happens to have one laying around they would like to sell.
Here's the measurements I'm looking for:
Free length- 6.5-6.75"
ID- 36mm
Rate-400-500lbs/in

MX tech talk / Pit bike Intake
« on: November 13, 2014, 02:33:34 PM »
I was gifted a very low hour SDG lil mini 50 that had been sitting for years w gas in it. I have gone through it front to back. I had to soak the carb body in carb solvent to get it opened up. The few ride reports I've found state this bike is "gut less" and thats how this one is. I think this is due to the oversize 16mm carb (13mm stock on CRF50) and the 24mm ID intake manifold slowing down the intake charge. The manifold is the same size as the big bore 125 motors use.  The bike runs pretty good mid to top but is a dog off the bottom. What are your thoughts tech gurus?

MX tech talk / How many hours for a topend 13crf450?
« on: April 11, 2014, 10:11:08 AM »
My buddy has a 13 CRT 450 with 40hrs on it. This past weekend it started blowin a bit of oil through the oil breather into the air box. Seems like I recall lots of you guys going 60+ hours on you 450s.
Hell he only weighs 160lbs the bike barely notices him . He's a vet int if that matters, Thanks.

MX tech talk / Crank doesn't turn freely when case bolts are torqued
« on: October 05, 2012, 10:05:35 AM »
I just assembled my trans for my 06 YZ250 smoker and every thing seems great until I torque the bolts. The crank turns but feels a bit stiff if I loosen the case bolts it turns freely. Any ideas? This was my first time doing it all by myself.

MX tech talk / Gear treatments for longevity
« on: March 01, 2012, 11:41:18 AM »
Does anyone have experience with REM isotropic finishing? Here is more info http://www.cryogenicsuperfinish.com/rem-isotropic-finish.html

I have a 06 YZ250 smoker that keeps loosing teeth off of 4th gear like it's smoking meth. I had the same thing happen last April. Both times one entire tooth sheered off and was caught by the magnetic drain plug. I have also had the same thing happen to 3rd gear on my 02.
I am looking to get more strength and longevity out of my gears.

Also on a side note are some trans bearings not butter smooth normally? The reason I ask is the same two bearings (1 main shaft and 1 output) I just replaced in April feel slightly rough just like last time. I figure eather this is normal for these two bearings or an odd coincidence.
Thank for the help, Rob

Videos Gallery / Gopro 960 set up
« on: June 16, 2011, 07:58:29 AM »
So the wife surprised me with an early fathers day gift a Gopro 960 8). So what mount do I use for the side helmet mount? I believe the camera has to be oriented horizontally and none of the mounts seem to do this. Is an 8GB SD enough? Do I run the open back or the fully sealed back on the case? 960p, 720p? Thanks in advance Rob.
